Depression Era Art

Third Grade is currently learning about the Great Depression and we are continuing that journey in art!
After discussing significant photos from the period...

We will be contrasting the reality of these photos with the bright and hopeful Regionalist art of Grant Wood from the same period.

4th Grade: Exploring Hopper's 'Nighthawks'

This week 4th grade will be exploring my personal favorite painting of all time: 'Nighthawks' by Edward Hopper. I love the subtle story this painting tells, but what if it told a different even wilder story?

The students will have a blank version of this famous diner on which to draw their own story of 'Nighthawks'.

So what's happening this week in JES Art?
So glad you asked!
4th Grade is studying architecture from around the world and using what they learn to create imaginary buildings. Next week we will begin our imaginary cityscapes, mixing architectural styles from all around the world!
3rd grade is in the process of creating their very own comic books!
2nd grade is exploring "unique characteristics" of animals and are mixing and matching those characteristics to create a magical menagerie of mixed up critters!
1st grade is creating sequence drawings showing the changes in a piece of food's appearance as we eat it.
5K is having a great time finding all of the subjects in Van Gogh's painting of his bedroom then trying to draw their own bedrooms!

Check back soon to see some pictures of the finished products of all this creativity!

WELCOME!

Welcome to the art room of Johnsonville Elementary School. Check back often to see some of the great things being created by the creative minds and hands of students from Kindergarten to 4th Grade!
